Notes
I first read this book 30 years ago, when it was newly released, and fell deeply in love. There's nothing better than a book that lets you fall head-first into a world and a story that has the power to block out the mundane world around you. Robin Hobb's books do that.
The story of FitzChivalry Farseer, bastard grandson of the King of the Six Duchies, is rich and rewarding. It features drama and humor and believable reality and deep humanity within a story of honor and devotion. Maybe I screamed a bit 30 years ago and did it again this time when I saw Fitz making mistakes but even that just pulled a reader deeper into the story. Royalty, magic, deprivation, violence, love, devotion.... dogs, horses, hawks and wolves: It all wraps into a world impossible to forget.
Now excuse me as I move on to the second book in the trilogy.
